5 Easy DIY Gifts for Christmas

Personalised presents made with your own hands are still always the best ideas and they touch peoples hearts. Many people still create DIY items, just look around you and you will see. Everyone can do it, sometimes we just need some inspiration, materials and tools. Some of the personalised gifts can be completed within minutes and others take some more time. Here you find 5 easy DIY gift ideas and instructions for this season. I am sure you will be able to melt the heart of your loved one. : )

Glass and Ceramics Decoration

Beautifully painted and decorated glass is a fabulous gift idea to decorate a room or a table. Just purchase any glass ware you like and add some patterns or writing with glass pens.  Just follow the instructions on the pens and be creative. Voila, you created your very personalised sun-catchers, vases or drinking glass. The same works for ceramics! Get some.

Door Stopperdoor stopper

Another easy project is the personalised door stopper. Just pick up a stone on your way home. It can even be an old brick and wash it to clean the surfaces. Then start to apply paint and decorate the stone. Some patterns or even animal faces have a great effect and put a smile on peoples faces when they go from one room to the next. Think about the person who you would like to surprise and paint for this person. Finally, varnish the door stopper with some thick and durable varnish so that the stone does not chip at first encounter with a door.

Personalised Clock

my clock smallThis gift is a wee bit more time intensive, but it is a great piece of useful decoration. For the personalised clock you need a picture frame without glass, quartz clock mechanism, photos, old magazines, glue and a hanger or a stand.  Take the back cardboard out of the frame and start to decorate it with pictures of the person, who receives the gift, with text snippets from magazines. Basically create a great collage of different snippets. To identify the time easily you can write the numbers on the frame. Then take the clock mechanism out of the clock, pierce a hole though the middle of the collage and  insert the mechanism and assemble the clock.  Decide whether you want the clock to hang or stand and create a hanger with a string or a  stand with  strong cardboard.

Fun Photo Book

Photo bookPhoto books are very popular these days and they are a great personalised gift. Photos you took during the year with your digital camera can come in very handy at the end of the year. With your Apple Macbook Pro Notebook, edit the images and choose ones of the person who is receiving your gift and you can even throw in some photos with you together and the time spent together.  Some ideas would be – our holidays this year, our outings, friendship, love etc. There are many online companies out there which provide the software to create professional looking books. One is mpix.com which I have been very satisfied with, just send your file and a couple of days later you have a great gift!

Stylish Vases

MistletoeThis is another easy and fast DIY idea. Collect beautifully shaped bottles and turn them into flower vases. Any bottle works, from wine bottles to Coke, even plastics and old perfume bottles. All you do is buy some glass spray, which should be available in many colours in any hard ware store. Choose some colours and all you do it start spraying. The best colours are matte, they will take a the bottle appearance away and really turn glass into a new experience. A green vase with a Mistletoe is a great gift for the holiday season.

Hope these ideas will help avoid the last rush for gifts this season. With a wee bit of planning and some creativity you can really surprise your friends and family with a DIY gift. If you really don’t find the time, there is still the option of online shopping. Happy holiday seasons!
