Maternity clothes are frumpy? This was certainly the case when my mother was pregnant! Things hadn’t improved dramatically by the time I was pregnant either. However, now I can safely say the funky mum-to-be can be as stylish and bang on trend like her non expectant girlfriends. Thought it would be interesting to compare the offerings for the pregnancy market versus the latest trends on todays high street.
Animal Print,
a huge trend in both designer labels and on the high street. On everything from coats to swimwear, shoes, accessories and even jewellery. The leopard prints are most popular and not just browns but also pinks and purple animal prints are available in maternity dresses and tops.
Zips and Studs galore,
a new and lasting fashion look is to have a functional aspect of clothes double as a feature and the maternity market doesn’t miss out. Maternity tops are all zipped up and offer soft hanky hemlines and quirky shapes with the zip being the main feature.
80’s Fashion,
from royal blues to fuschia, reds and orange teamed with black and a bit of blink thrown in for good measure. The 80’s look is rampant and here to stay across all fashion sectors and that
includes pregnancy clothing. Try jewel embellished maternity jeans in unusual colours like grey or black as a change from the norm.
Sequins and Studs….and the LBD
Maternity clothes, like all other ladies wear is adorned with glamour and glitter for the festive season. Also, now the party season is upon us, the discerning mum-to-be is in just as much need of that special ‘little black dress’. A favourite is a fabulous 6 way dress, featured regularly in the media…its amazing features are that it works to cover all bases…a skirt, strapless dress, halterneck, backless…you name it , it will turn into it!
Flowing Autumn Winter Knitwear
As the nights draw in we all need to feel cosy warm inside and outside. The highstreet is awash with flowing cardigans and a waterfall cardigan in a rich bold colour is the perfect maternity knitwear cover up. Also perfect for discreet nursing and will add glamour to any outfit.
Did you know…?
The famous mothercare store don’t only offer products but they also deliver an essential service for expecting parents. Some of the stores offer courses for parents-to-be about essential products related to the first stages of parenthood. Parents can also obtain health advice from health professionals in a relaxed environment.
