A Quiet Get-Away
White noise, traffic congestion and a general lack of a quiet place away from daily routines makes a log cabin a desirable retreat. They make a great second home or hide-away for people who feel the need for solitude. Log cabins are also a great place for any hobbyist to enjoy their favorite past time without intruding on the rest of the members of the household.
Contemporary Log Cabins
Today’s cabins have been redesigned as permanent homes with a wide veranda or front porch, a large stone fireplace and enough bedrooms for a full complement of guests. With current modern building materials, log cabin homes are warm in winter and cool in summer, and are built in a wide choice of sizes. This makes them convenient in a backyard as well. Parents love to have a safe place for their kids to play. A modified log cabin is ideal for this purpose. They also are great as swim cabanas with a rustic look for backyards with pools and summertime swim parties.
A Garden Focal Point
With good planning, a cabin can be the main focus of a formal garden. Locate the log cabin in a central garden area and include a small flagstone or cobblestone path and low boxwood or flower beds beneath the windows. In winter, add a small wood-burning pot-bellied stove. Furnishings for log cabins are found in rustic designs that match the styles of log cabins. Avid fishermen love the idea of a backyard log cabin to store their rods, reels and tackle boxes. And, it’s a nice quiet place to tie flies for the next fishing trip to the lake. The ladies can enjoy a quaint place for sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting.
There’s enough space to store a sewing machine, fabrics, quilting frames, etc. This past time can take up quite a bit of room in a home. A log cabin is an ideal place to pursue this interest.
A Man’s Log Cabin Is His Castle
What could be a more appropriate place for male bonding than a log cabin? Those poker games and all day football and baseball games become quite noisy for a regular household. In a backyard log cabin, the guys are comfortable in a less formal atmosphere and they can play armchair athletes to their heart’s content.
