Great Valentine’s Gift Ideas

Valentine’s day  is dedicated to celebrating lovers.  In the traditional sense we celebrate between husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends and partners.  However Valentine’s day should be seen as a celebration of “love”.  There is no greater love than that between a parent and child, so why not give a gift of love to a mother, father or grandparent this Valentine’s day.

This does not need to be an expensive gift it can be as simple as a homemade card with your child’s artwork.  Even the smallest baby can be helped to paint a footprint or hand print on a card.  Other items you could print baby hand prints on include canvas and pottery.

There are plenty of shops you can visit to paint pottery. Alternatively there are mobile pottery painting companies that will come to your playgroup, nursery or home.  You could order a mail order pottery painting kit and you can order individual items like mugs , plates or piggy banks.   If you have a few friends who want to paint pots to or you want to create a very personal gift for everyone in the family, (grandparents love these items!!) then larger selection boxes of pottery are available.  These kits include pottery, special water based paint, instructions and a professional glazing and firing service.  This glazing means that all items are food safe and the paints are completely permanent.

I have been painting baby hand and foot prints for the last 8 years and have written a short leaflet on how to paint hand and footprints on a variety of surfaces including baby books, canvases and more difficult shapes like Christmas baubles.  If you would like a copy please  send me email.

Did you know…?

Parents are definitely celebrated around Valentine’s Day, they receive  receive 1 out of 5 valentine greetings.

I so agree with the comments in this blog. Like you I help people to do hand and footprints on pottery, its an amazing way of creating a special gift while creating a memory at the same time and its a privilege to be involved in helping produce family heirlooms which are totally unique.
