Water is the essence of life. There are a few features to look for when purchasing a water saving shower head. There’s an assumption that water saving shower heads use less water and are therefore doesn’t have the same cleaning power or comfortability as a regular shower head. That’s completely false. Aerated shower heads mix water and air and form a misty spray that reduces the amount of water used and laminar-flow shower heads uses individual streams of water at high pressure. Automatic shut off shower heads are programmable shower heads that turns off while you lather up. All shower heads are water saving, and deciding on which one to go with is all up to preference.

After choosing what type of shower head best fits your shower style, there are two major factors to consider before purchasing your energy saving shower head. The first is the litres per minute used. You want a shower head that has a flow rate lower than 9.4 litres per minute. Anything higher is not water saving and will cost you more per month. The lower the litres per minute, the better.

The next thing to think about is the water pressure. More water pressure means a stronger flow of water, so the higher the water pressure, the better. Knowing this, I’ve compiled a list of 5 of the best water saving shower heads on the market for you. Check ‘em out below!

How does it keep the water pressure up, with such a low amount of water? The Nordic Ecoshower uses a different kind of technology in which a specially designed screw/turbine bounces the water into a pressure chamber where it builds pressure before being pushed out. In addition, instead of spray modes, the shower head has a continuous adjustment–meaning you can gradually adjust the stream of water from wide spray to solid stream and anything in between–so that you have an almost infinite amount of water stream options to choose from.

3. Eco Camel

Liverpool John Moore University has conducted research on the Eco Camel and has documented that it can reduce you water consumption by up to 70% each time you shower. It also uses aerated technology and uses about 8 litres per minute and shoots out highly pressurized water. Some reviews have stated that it is comparable to a power shower. One downside is that there is only one shower setting, but that downside is offset by the fact that the Eco Camel has exceptional water pressure, and you probably won’t need to adjust the shower head for more pressure.

4. Hansgrohe Verso Vario

The Hansgrohe Verso Vario is the most stylishly designed shower head on this list. It has a flow rate of 9 litres per minute and comes with 4 spray options: rain, normal, shampoo and massage. Its anti-limescale system allows it to last longer and it also comes with a 5 year guarantee. The perfect mix of comfort, versatility, style and eco-friendliness makes the Verso Vario a great choice.

5. Hansgrohe Club Eco

Like the Hansgrohe Verso Vario, the Hansgrohe Club Eco is chrome and comes with an anti-limescare system and a 5 year guarantee. Unlike the Verso Vario, it’s a bit less modern looking. Still, it brings a lot of comfort to the table, which can be very hard to find amongst water saving shower heads. It can reduce water consumption by up to 50% and is cheaper than the Verso Vario.
