The rent in London can cost you a fortune. Therefore, everyone tries to buy the most economically efficient and space saving furniture in order to avoid cramped rooms.
In our case, we needed a new bed for our bedroom. It is a small room but the main advantage was a big window that filled the room with light. Our main concern was that we had to buy a small bed so that we could still have space for extra storage. Then I came across these nice storage beds. I thought that’s a great idea! All those extra blankets you keep for cold nights and extra pillows that need to be packed away in the summer can be stuffed into the built-in drawers under your bed. They slide easily in and out and it is so convenient.
When it came to choosing the material, we went for a nice, bright oak wood finish. We bought an oak storage bed. It is nice and bright and it makes the room look bigger. That is a small trick to expand your room
optically. The choice of the colours that you paint your room in can make a big difference as well. Create optical illusions that open up your room by using light colours like creams, whites, yellows or soft blues that make you feel like the room is airy. Behind the bed you can paint the wall in a different colour that complements the other three walls. Thus, you draw attention to that wall and it makes the room seem longer.
Beside the bed, we needed to squeeze in a desk too. I didn’t want it in the living
room because it can easily get messy when we drop off our mail and bills. Again, storage was our number one priority. A pedestal desk solved all our problems. It has large stationary drawers and you can organize your files in them very well.
A friend of mine works from home and she also bought a pedestal desk because she needs to keep her documents close at hand. She saves a lot of time by just opening the drawers and finding them instead of having to get up and walk to a file cabinet.
We ordered our pedestal desk in oak as well so that it fits in with the rest of our furniture. We are very happy with our bedroom and we managed to make more seem like less.
Did you know?
The smallest house in Britain is located in Quayside at Conwy, North Wales. It measures only 3.05 metres by 1.8 metres. This red painted house was once owned by 6ft fisherman – Robert Jones. He could not stand up in his house and there was no room for a toilet within the walls. After a visit you will never complain about the size of your flat in London.
