Samsung Vs. Sony LCD TVs

sony bravia 46 lcd tvIf you are in the market for a brand new telly or if you have a reasonable amount of knowledge about electronics, you’ve probably already heard of Sony and Samsung. They are both the leading producers of state of the art LCD and LED TV’s. Sony’s renowned Bravia line of LCD tellies and Samsung’s LCD TV Series are the most popular models out there and the reason is simple — their quality is unbeatable.

Both TVs have picture and sound quality that go unmatched in quality. It goes without saying that if you’re planning on buying an LCD, you can’t go wrong with either a Sony Bravia or a Samsung LCD. Their models all have 1080p resolution, which means high definition picture quality, and the high end models are equipped with an image processor that delivers more frames per second. What results is a crystal clear picture with no blur, so when you watch sports or fast moving action films, the movement is clear and extraordinarily life like.

There are a few things each brand does better though, and for the serious consumer this article might be incredibly useful. My personal favourite is Samsung, but Sony outshines Samsung on a number of things.

Sony Bravia LCDs come with a plethora of amazing features. In my opinion, the one major advantage Sony tellies have over Samsung LCDs is it’s exterior design. Sony Bravias look every bit posh. Samsung LCDs are far from cheap looking, but Sony Bravias look a bit better. The exterior looks extremely high quality. It is designed to look like a perfect, smooth monolithic slab. What results is a telly that looks amazing even when it’s not on.

This is especially helpful when watching noisy action film or if someone is hard of hearing. By that same token, you can also lower the level of dialogue and amplify sounds effects and background noise if you want to fully immerse yourself into whatever you’re watching. And one more thing to consider is size. Sony Bravia’s look awesome and they don’t come cheap. If you’re wanting to buy a quality telly, make sure that properly fits your living space. A Sony Bravia 46 LCD TV is large enough for most living rooms and would be a perfect addition to your home.

Samsung LCDs are my personal favourite. Every time I walk through an electronic store with a row to tellies, Samsung LCDs always catch my eye. The reason is their colour quality. Samsung is literally unbeatable when it comes to colour contrast and quality. Their tellies come with something called a Wide Colour Enhancer that delivers a wider range of colours not found on other LCDs. Give them a look yourself, the next time you’re at an electronics store, see which telly catches your eye. Samsung has the darkest blacks and the most vibrant colours around.

In addition, Samsung has LCD models that have over 200hz processors. In fact, they have models with 240hz processors which trounces Sony Bravias. They’re overall picture quality is better than most LCD tellies by leaps and bounds, and though the Sony Bravia comes close, it doesn’t beat Samsung. Sure it doesn’t look as lovely as a Sony Bravia…until you turn it on. A friend of mine bought a very basic Samsung 37 LCD over two years ago and it looks brand new and the picture quality still amazes me to this day. I can’t imagine what it would be like to buy a newer Samsung LCD now, let alone an LED TV which has even better colour and picture quality.

Did you know?

LCD stands for liquid crystal display. It refers to the little liquid crystals inside the screen of an LCD TV that respond to light. The back light behind the screen lights up the liquid crystals which then displays the picture.
