I am really not the keenest camper around, all the camping that I do requires permanent tents in a lodge. This sort of camping makes a huge dent in your wallet and it’s not always possible to camp this way for a long while. My husband on the other hand is a very keen camper and as you all know, in relationships you sometimes have to meet each other half way. For his birthday the other day, I pulled myself together and gave him something I knew he would appreciate. It was a voucher for a luxury camping trip and in small print: Organised by your wife. I know all the odds and ends of luxury camping which I would like to share with you. I know my husband loves the Lake District, so I reserved a camping spot on the lake. We’re planning on going next week.
The first thing I made sure of is that we got a camping spot with electricity–this is an absolute must. I need electricity for so many things and the weekend will just flow nicely if we can keep the wine cold and when we don’t have to worry about the milk going sour.
Secondly, my luxury camping experience does not include fussing about dinner. I made reservations at some nice restaurants in town. We plan to leave early to enjoy dinner and then spend the rest of the evening at the camp site. My husband just loves to make a camp fire and I don’t want to deprive him of his fun. I even get him a packet of marshmallows.
The one thing I really dislike about camping is the fact that I always have dirty feet. And the dirt comes into the tent from everywhere. To combat this problem I decided to take a bamboo rug with me, which I put in front of the tent. This way, your feet stay clean and dry and the dirt stays outside.
Next on my list of peeves is the sleeping part. Sleeping in a tent is highly uncomfortable. It is always cold and you hear everything around you. So I bought an airflow mattress. There will be enough space in the tent for the mattress, we will be high enough off the ground and the cold will not creep in on us. I also don’t sleep in sleeping bags–I’ll take our nice cotton purple bedding from home and I will sleep in an almost normal bed. Imagine that and camping is suddenly not that bad any more.
Hopefully we will have a peaceful nights slumber and then in the morning I’ll need to make sure we get our tea. The day can’t start without a great cup of Earl Grey. So I got us a camping stove. Although I am not prepared to fuss, I am prepared to make tea. Now I can start the day happy and have a great weekend with my husband.
Keep in mind that this is a luxury camping tip list and not the ordinary adventure person’s list. This can also only be done when you have enough space in your car to take these luxuries with you. I will let you know whether things have worked out for me. For now, my husband is happy.
