As I happen to love board games, I’m an expert in setting up the perfect board game night. Here are the 3 big “Ws” you have to answer in advance: Where? Who? What?

Where?
To make your board game night a success you should pay close attention to the location you choose. Your couch might look like the most comfortable place on earth but it’s definitely inappropriate for long board game nights. For most board games you need a good overview. Therefore sitting around a table is much better. So the best place for long board game nights is the kitchen. A group of people gathered around your pine kitchen table is the perfect setting because it is big and stable enough. There is enough space even for very extensive game sets. Drinks and snacks are another essential part of a game night. You won’t have problems to find space for them on a big table.

Who?
Playing board games is an activity everyone can do. You can invite your friends or you play with your kids or grandparents. It doesn’t matter. There are so many different types of board games out there – from strategy to action and reflex games. You just have to make sure that you choose the right game for the right group of people. Your kids might be more interested in a reflex game while your friends probably prefer a strategy game. If you have a large group of people a pull out table might come in handy as well. Simply pull out the leaves and adjust your setting to the needs of people. And afterwards you can easily fold them up again.

What?
As there are so many different board games out there, it gets quite difficult to decide for one. First of all, you should know what type of game you prefer: family games, children’s games, strategy games or traditional games. Your decision depends on whom you want to play with. If you play with children, it shouldn’t last too long to avoid taxing their patience. I personally love strategy games like “Carcassonne” or “Settlers of Catan”. These games can last very long. So they are appropriate for playing with other adults. If you are having a party, the perfect game is “Outburst”. It includes a lot of people and is fun.
