The dining room is an incredibly important room in your home. It’s the one room where a family can all get together and share a meal and good conversation. In the hustle and bustle of today’s lifestyle, it can be hard for everyone to find time to eat together every night, but studies have shown that a eating dinner together tends to result in healthier relationships with each other and with others. Children who also develop a habit of eating dinner with their families tend to develop better eating habits as an adult. Eating together is much more important than think. Help encourage family dinner time by making your dining room as inviting as possible.
A little known fact is that the design of dining room tables effect conversation. Round tables allow for equal participation and inclusion of everyone at the table, while rectangular tables tend to section off conversation between whoever sits directly to the left, right and front of you. While a round dining table might sound much more appealing in terms of fostering conversation, it offers little in the way of space.
Rectangular dining rooms offer more space for food and for seating. If you’ve got a big family, a rectangular table might work better for your dining room. The added benefit is that rectangular dining rooms are much more popular because of their design–they look much more modern and chic, from a designers perspective, than round tables which were much more popular in the 60′s and 70′s.
If you’ve a small dining room or a kitchen/dining room combo, small kitchen tables do the trick. They typically seat two to four people. Wooden kitchen tables are especially popular in the world of design and décor. The earthy colours and linear angles of rectangular tables look absolutely lovely in nearly any kind of room, especially for those that don’t have ample space. Pine kitchen tables are especially popular because of their simplicity and clean, light finish. Pine looks great year after year and is extraordinarily durable.
Still nothing beats a round table from including everyone equal face time at the table. It’s easier to talk to each other, pass food and share good vibes with each other on a round table, which is why it is still my personal dining room table of choice.
