One of my favourite things about summer are summer dresses. It’s finally warm enough to wear some of the cutest things in my wardrobe! Instead of hitting the stores for new summer clothes, I have a few classic summer dresses that I keep in my wardrobe that really never go out of style. Chiffon and tunic dresses are among my most favourite summertime selections because they are simple, comfortable and above all, incredibly feminine.
Chiffon dresses are the epitome of femininity. The lightweight, sheer fabric always has a tendency to fall in the most flattering way. Chiffon is a fabric that is weaved in a particular way that allows it to have it’s light, buoyant qualities. It is typically made out of cotton, silk and synthetic fibres and comes in all sorts of colours but has a very distinct look and feel. The thing I love most about Chiffon is that it is elegant enough for formal occasions but comfortable enough to be worn on a casual summer day.
A Tunic dress is far from what immediately comes to mind when thinking about tunics. Tunic dresses are light, simply cut dresses made out of a light fabric that typically falls mid-thigh. These dresses are the epitome of simple, summer clothing but they don’t skimp on style. Tunic dresses are often tapered a bit at the waist, giving it a feminine look and come with or without sleeves and in all kinds of colours and designs. My favourite thing about tunic dresses is it’s simplicity. The summertime is all about removing all the layers, embellishments and distractions from former seasons and living life to the fullest. These two classic dresses will make sure that you are dressed for the occasion.
Did you know?
The word ‘tunic’ is derived from the latin word ‘tunica’. In Ancient Rome, citizens typically wore tunics every single day and wore togas on top for formal occasions only.
