quilted jacket outerwearWith autumn upon us, a light but durable jacket is a necessary addition to any wardrobe.

1.
Men’s hooded jackets are an instant classic. Made mostly out of cotton (80% cotton – 20% polyester) this hoodie is light and comfortable. The drawstring hood provides added warmth and protection while the double pouch pockets create a warm resting place for your hands. Its sleek yet simple design makes for a great undercoat on those chilly autumn nights as well as an easy throw over on a spring or summer evening.

2.
For a thicker outer coat, one might look to the England 1990 reversible wind jacket. The England Jacket was originally worn by the English Team in the 1990′s. This coat provides added wind support with its thick outer layer.  The windproof hood provides added style points along with solid protection against strong winds. Both sides of this reversible jacket have their own unique flavour. While a bit more expensive than the hooded zip sweatshirt jacket, the England reversible wind jacket is more suitable for the colder conditions of the autumn and winter.

3.
The B&C Men’s Hooded Soft Shell Jacket shares a lot of similarities to the North Face (#4), but comes at a much cheaper price. While North Face offers an easy to stow hood, this jacket has the added luxury of a detachable hood. It also has the same easy zip inner and outer pockets along with the full zip chin guard that North Face flaunts. While North Face has made a name for itself and continues to produce top of the line products, the B&C Soft Shell Jacket is not much of a downgrade and it comes at a much cheaper price.

4.
The North Face Men’s All Terrain Jacket is one of the few completely weatherproof jackets on this list. Providing you with a waterproof hood that can be stowed in the collar, this jacket is great not only for the autumn season, but also for the snowy winter season. The light design of this jacket may be misleading; it is one of the more effective jackets in harsh rain and snow, particularly because of its “Gore-Tex” shell and chin cover zip. On those really cold days, the inner fleece is fitted with a zip to provide added warmth. The major downside to this jacket is its price, but its durability makes it a worthwhile investment.

When looking for quilted jacket outerwear, look no further than the Ted Baker Quiltep Quilted Nylon Jacket (top left). It comes at a heftier price than the England jacket previously mentioned, but for good reason. Of the five jackets listed it is the sleekest and most fashionable as it is fitted and equipped with large cargo-style pockets and an intricate button and zip combination. While it is lacking a hood, it makes up for it with its tall and thick collar. If you are looking for a quilted jacket with style, look no further than the Ted Baker’s Quiltep Quilted Jacket.

If you are looking for a bargain, the versatile hooded jacket is the way to go. For a sturdier windbreaker, both the England jacket and the Ted Baker quilted jacket are good options. The England jacket comes at a cheaper price and has the luxury of a hood. The Ted Baker quilted jacket, while a bit pricier, has the convenient yet stylish cargo pockets and a fitted design. If you are looking for an autumn and winter friendly jacket, the North Face and B&C soft shell are your best bet as they are weatherproofed for all conditions.  The B&C soft shell jacket will be the better bargain, whereas the North Face all terrain jacket comes from an established brand that is known to produce a top of the line product, of course it also sports a heftier price tag.

The North Face logo is modeled after ‘half-dome’ at Yosemite National Park in California.
