Turn your kitchen into a family room

induction hobsHave you ever noticed that the most popular place during a party is always the kitchen area? The kitchen is an important, if not the most important room in a house: It is the place where you prepare food. Traditionally, the role of a kitchen was defined by food preparation only: Take a room of a decent size; put some kitchen appliances in there and your typical kitchen is ready. However, preparing food in a kitchen isn’t enough anymore.

If your kitchen is also a room just used for food preparation, please read on and get some tips how you can turn your kitchen into a family room.

The first step to your new kitchen experience is setting up a table. Depending on the size of your family, round dining tables are usually the best solutions. They fit in a small-size and over-size kitchen likewise. Because of their round shape, these tables can sit a large number of people. You can go for tables made of many different materials. Personally, I prefer an old-fashioned, rustic wooden dining table because it reminds me of long nights with friends having good conversations and a glass of wine.

Even if your kitchen is now more like a family room, you should not forget about the convenience of modern kitchen appliances. The latest fashion of cooking appliances is induction hobs. In an induction hob the heat is generated in the cooking vessel and not in the stovetop. Another advantage of these types of cookers is that they are faster and thus more energy-efficient. With an induction hob you can kill two birds with one stone: Enjoy a faster prepared meal and save money.

To save space on your kitchen top, you should go for a built in microwave. They come in different sizes and colours. It just depends on your taste what kind of microwave you choose. Especially with kids, it’s sometimes difficult to prepare food for them on time. A microwave can help to ease these situations.

Hopefully, you got some inspiration how you could possibly jazz up your kitchen into a family room. However, at the end of the day what kind of fancy appliances you have in there, it’s the people in your kitchen who count.

Did you know?

In the Roman Empire, common folk prepared food in large public kitchens as they often didn’t have a kitchen in their houses. Wealthy Romans on the other hand had relatively well-equipped kitchens although there were no chimneys.
