Buying a new winter jacket like a funnel collar jacket can be a daunting task, particularly for those of you who do most of your shopping online. It takes a lot of commitment, in my opinion, to decide on one that is right for you.

First of all, you’re buying a lot of quality fabric and the price is representative of that, so the amount of money you’ll spend may be intimidating enough. Also, the jacket you choose to wear outside will likely take over your outfit as it tends to be one of the first things people see. Then, there is the commitment of time since it will be worn often and hopefully for more than one season.  So there’s three dimensions (time, space, and money) of responsibility you need to think about before your purchase.

A funnel collar jacket may ease some of the pressure of commitment off you since they don’t seem to be as big as parkas and you don’t have to fiddle with any hoods. Originally, I decided I wouldn’t wear anything that made me look like my cat after a trip to the vet, but lately I’ve been warming up to the funnel collar. These would be nice if it doesn’t get too cold or rainy this winter.

A good way to avoid regret is to go with well known brands and avoid novelty. You want something classic that you can rely on. Berghaus happens to be a dependable UK outdoor clothing company. Another brand name to consider is The North Face if you’re expecting harsh conditions. For you ladies, I would point out that they make some fabulous looking jackets for you (at least from my perspective as a guy). Specifically, I would recommend The North Face Metropolis parka if you want THE jacket and you’re tired of layering. This is pretty much a sleeping bag with sleeves. Just step into it and you’re fully covered,ready to brave the elements.
