You know the image of the stereotypical bachelor pad – exposed brick , red leather sofa, 70-inch TV and a fridge full of beer.  I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that – heck, I’d like to live in that flat – but I am going to suggest that it doesn’t paint a full picture.  A bachelor pad isn’t about extravagance or ridiculous taxidermy (we’ll save this for another day), but rather it’s about quiet luxury and having a space a man can feel comfortable in.  Below are some products guaranteed to take your flat from stereotype to uniquely stylish.

Every bachelor pad needs a good entertainment centre, but often we focus on the wrong appliances.  Instead of splurging for an ostentatious big screen, opt for a modest 42-inch TV with an impressive stereo system.  Think about how your home entertainment centre fits in your space rather than planning the room around it.  A home cinema receiver can power all your speakers and will allow you to customize your sound system to your liking, making it as, if not more important than the TV itself.  Chances are, your guests will appreciate your restraint as they enjoy the full cinema experience.

Of course, a man can’t live on beer and films alone.  You’re going to need food, and more importantly, a place to eat.  The breakfast bar in your kitchen may be the perfect place to enjoy a quiet cup of coffee in the morning, but it just won’t do when your friends come over.  A round dining table, on the other hand, is small enough to move around but still provides enough seating for you and at least three guests.  Plus the shape and size make it perfect for your poker nights.

Finally, it’s no secret that a man needs a comfy seat to sit and unwind, but what I’m going to say might come as a surprise – keep the red leather sofa.  In truth, a red sofa can transform a room without increasing its tackiness, but the key is to keep everything else in balance.  Red leather set against subdued appliances and hardwood floors can add just the right amount of rebellious flair to your flat.  Just make sure it’s comfy, and if your guests happen to compliment you on your new look, be sure to throw a beer my way.
