The kitchen dance and the golden triangle

Most of us have danced the kitchen dance before.  You know, when you dash from the stove to the fridge to the sink and back, chopping vegetables and stirring pots along the way, keeping time to the urgent chime of the kitchen timer going off, telling you that you need to check the oven now.  And then of course the kettle starts whistling, and the stove starts hissing from boil over, and it’s all so crazy you just can’t keep the beat.  Yep, when things get like that, you really need to rethink the choreography of your kitchen dance.  Go for efficient, not intricate, by forming a golden triangle of your most important kitchen fixtures.

built-in electric ovensStart with the two most stationary kitchen fixtures as the base points of your triangle – your oven and your sink.  You don’t have to remodel, but do consider updating your appliances to make sure that they are as efficient as possible.  Built-in electric ovens, for example, are easy to install and create a streamlined flow from surface to surface in your kitchen.  Being built-in means that they don’t take up extra floor space, and there aren’t any wires running along the floorboard to trip you up during your dance.  Of course, only consider electric ovens with an A efficiency rating, and look for models with multiple functions like defrost and grilling.

Next, make sure that your sink is in a line with your oven, and while you’re at it, check that it’s up to scratch.  Rather, make sure that it won’t get scratched or rusted with wear.  A stainless steel sink is the best choice for a clean, practical vibe, and makes your kitchen dance easier by providing you with an efficient space for cleanup.  A large, convenient sink brings the turnaround time for your utensils and pots way down, which means you spend less time sprinting to the cupboards for new cooking vessels, and your counters are less cluttered.

Once the triangle is formed, your kitchen dance will become instantly easier.  You get to eliminate doubling back and crossing over the kitchen unnecessarily, and all of your fixtures are at convenient angles to reach from wherever you’re standing.  You can just flow from point to point of the triangle, and marvel at how simple the dance seems when your fixtures are in line.

Did you know?

A Dragon’s Eye is an equilateral triangle that points downward with a Y in the centre. The Y symbolises the choice between good and evil.
