Retro may be trending in home design but nothing says elegance, sophistication and intellect more than the clean, straight lines of modernism. If you’re wondering what Modernism is, it started out as an intellectual movement which branched out into other spheres such as art and design, and can be characterized by the rejection of tradition. Modernism in the home strips down design and emphasizes functionality, which means the absence of anything historical and the absence of anything ornamental, unnecessary or showy.

If the stark minimalism of this design philosophy seems too clinical and impersonal for your entire home, you can add a touch of modernity to your domestic décor with the clean look of glass and chrome.  The best place to do this is with central pieces of furniture such as tables. A glass dining table can create a simple and uncluttered feel in this prime entertaining area.

Cut down on the intimidation of the glass table’s elegance and promote conversation among your guests by making sure your glass table is a round dining table. A round table will create a more intimate atmosphere by making sure everyone is in full view during conversation.

Another great place to focus on is your living room and the central coffee table. Buying yourself a chrome coffee table and coupling it with a bold black coloured sofa will keep your living room design arrangement from seeming too cluttered and will help give you peace of mind.

Modern is still a desired look for the home but you don’t have to be completely locked into the drabness of minimalistic furniture, sparse arrangement and clean white walls. Use it as a springboard or canvas for the occasional wild splash of colour or funky looking rug.
