Let’s all take a moment to appreciate velvet. It’s pretty awesome, in all of its incarnations. Red velvet cake has no equal. National Velvet is a classic gem of a film. The Velvet Underground was one of the most influential bands of the 60s. And whoever doesn’t love The Velveteen Rabbit has no heart. The list goes on. Of course, my own personal list of why velvet is awesome centres around its fashion attributes. Velvet automatically adds interesting texture to any outfit, and it’s a great way to amp up the luxury and glamour factor.

Among the many ways that you can wear velvet, a velvet party coat is my favourite. Velvet coats are warm and soft, and they’re perfect for parties because they are so festive. They hint at extravagance while remaining super classy. Plus, velvet coats are really versatile. They can dress up basic outfits and they effortlessly complement looks that are already dressy. Pair a cute little velvet bolero with a sequin dress, and you’re all set for a luxurious party evening. It’s the perfect celebratory look for New Year’s Eve!
Another fantastic way to wear velvet is as a trim. It’s subtle, sophisticated, and luxurious, and as a collar or lining it’s remarkably easy to care for. Velvet looks especially luxe in dark colours, and deep jewel tones like purple and blue are flattering on everyone. For a royal look from head to toe, pair a blazer that has purple velvet trim with purple ladies boots. You will look glamorous and collected, not to mention nice and warm for the winter.
