Home workout necessities

With New Year’s approaching, many of us will vow to get in shape as part of our resolution. As hard as these promises we make to ourselves can be to keep, with a few simple additions and changes to your life, getting in shape is a very obtainable goal. Since joining a gym isn’t for everybody, here are a few helpful tips and equipment choices that can turn your sitting room into a grueling fitness gauntlet.

Weight BenchFor optimal results, your home workout routine should incorporate a regimented strength training schedule. Dumbbells paired with a weight bench and body resistance exercises such as pull-ups, dips, and push-ups, allow you to easily perform a full body workout from the comfort of your home. Adjustable dumbbell kits take up little space and give you a range of weight options.

A common excuse many people make for neglecting fitness training is a lack of time. This is nonsense, as a proper work out can be obtained in less than 45 minutes. When working on strength training, a great way to get an efficient workout is to incorporate “super sets” into your routine. This is the process of doing multiple exercises in succession without resting. The faster you work the more of a complete workout you will achieve.  Adjustable Dumbbell Kits

No matter how much time you focus on strength training, to see real gains in your training and appearance you need to mix in some cardio. Dreary winter weather makes going out for a run a daunting task. Now you can always invest in great winter training gear and brave the elements. But for those who prefer to stay indoors there are a multitude of home gym pieces that allow you to work on your cardiovascular fitness.

One of the best offerings is a NordicTrack Treadmill. These are easily stored when not being used, and can let you squeeze in a quick run at any time of the day. If you’re like me, running for the sake of running sounds like torture. A magnetic exercise bike provides a great alternative cardio workout, and is also less strenuous on your joints.

Now that you’ve decided that you are going to get in shape, here are a few tips to make sure you don’t fall off the wagon:

  • Force yourself to work out on set days. If you have a set schedule, it will be easier to skip work outs.
  • Incorporate a workout into your daily routine. You wouldn’t leave the house without brushing your teeth. Set an equal priority for your workout.
  • Set goals for yourself. If you are pursuing something measurable, it’s much easier to stay on track.
  • If possible, find a workout partner. Having someone there to push you will make you work harder, and there will be someone to force you to work out on days when you’d rather sit on the sofa.
