Stay fit through the winter

Proform TreadmillIt is much harder to get back in shape than it is to stay in shape. If you want to stay in shape through the winter, investing in a home gym is necessary. At the very least, one should keep up with their cardio and grab a stationary bike, treadmill or elliptical. This way you can turn on the evening news or your favourite TV series while you get in a solid workout.

If you are looking to add a bit of muscle or do some toning, then a small dumbbell set or an adjustable dumbbell set will serve you well. I prefer using an adjustable dumbbell set because they take up far less space and are efficient in reaching a wide variety of workouts. If you can add a workout bench of some sort to your dumbbell set, you will instantly expand your workout possibilities and will have a chance to keep your workout new and exciting.

For a good cardio workout, I would suggest a sturdy treadmill with a number of different modes and functions. It is always nice to be able to mix up your run with some change in pace and incline. With a Proform treadmill, you have all of the basic functions and a number of different preset workouts to keep you busy through the cold season. Whether you want to work on your cardio, burn fat or centre your focus on your heart rate, it can do it all. If you are afraid of damaging your joints, particularly your knees, you might be more inclined toward buying a Proform elliptical.Proform Elliptical With the elliptical, you get an equally effective cardio workout, but you save yourself from doing serious harm to your body or further injuring yourself.

For those of you who want to maximize your workout, a proper diet and a good mixture of vitamins and supplements will give you the necessary boost. Prior to workouts, it is always good to load up on carbohydrates and potassium for a fully effective workout. Post workout, preparing a mix of lean protein such as eggs, chicken or beans will help build muscle. Of course, you can always go for a protein shake, which will provide you with your daily values of protein.
