Certain things will always be cool: Steve McQueen, motorcycles, and Steve McQueen wearing motorcycle jackets. Motorcycle style has been favoured in the fashion crowd for quite some time now. When done right, it creates a rugged, cool, and effortless style. Somehow I get the feeling that motorcycle inspired fashion conjures up of full body leather suits in the minds of many people. A good leather jacket is always in, but before you go out investing in leather chaps and a Harley, remembers, this isn’t a Halloween costume.

Famous motorcycle clubs like the Hells Angels were formed by former WWII veterans, and it should be no surprise that some many motorcycle fashion pieces are largely inspired by military garments. Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of their famous piece, the Barbour International Jacket black or olive features a rugged military design that has crossed over into the mainstream fashion world. Another good looking classic is the Trialmaster Belstaff Jacket.

The sharp design lines and worn look of waxed cotton motorcycle jackets make them a perfect complement for casual wardrobe staples like dark jeans and crew neck pull over sweaters. I happen to be firm believer that the wrong footwear can ruin even the best outfit. Just think of the stylings and inspiration behind the jacket. It’s rugged, and it’s masculine. To me, all signs point to boots. Some cool options include Panama Jack Boots, Clark’s Desert Boot, or some real kickers like Red Wings. For good measure, why not throw on some aviators while you’re at it.
