Getting to the gym on a regular basis continues to be one of the biggest struggles for the average person. Whether you do not have the time of day or are simply too lazy to make time, finding some sort of motivation to get you in is great. Get yourself a gym partner or two and make a point of contacting one another whenever you go. Create a goal, not necessarily a size or weight to reach, but rather something along the lines of a routine. Finding a way to work it into your busy schedule, even if it is only once or twice a week, will at least get you out the door. Before you know it, you will find that you have more time to go to the gym that you thought.
Maybe you are not one who cannot find the time or motivation, but you simply find it boring or even punishing. At first, it always is, but that might also be because your agenda rarely has any changes or excitement. If you constantly find yourself on a Proform treadmill for your cardio workout, maybe it is time to switch it up. Take your cardio to the streets with a ride on a lightweight bike. Instead of stepping onto the Proform elliptical, maybe joining a pick-up football league will excite you. The key is to simply mix things up and allow your body and mind to enjoy something different rather than going through the motions day after day.
You can even make your time in the gym more interesting. Not only does mixing up your workouts add excitement, but it also helps to get you fit quicker. For instance, a high-paced lifting session can kill two birds with one stone and have you in and out of the gym in under an hour. If you go fast enough, you can maintain a high heart rate and work on your cardio while you lift. Rather than spending an hour on the bicycle, elliptical or treadmill, create a circuit that includes all three. Lastly, changing up the number of repetitions and sets not only works your body at different rates, but also makes for a more interesting workout.
