Editor’s choice 2011 is a new series on Shopaholic in which our talented team of fashion and design editors select their favourite products for the new year.

We at Shopaholic may like to wax poetic about our favourite clothing styles, but from time to time we also enjoy rolling up our sleeves and getting down and dirty with the latest electronics.  2010 was a landmark year for electronics that saw the proliferation of smartphones and 3D TVs into the mainstream, and we expect no less from the year to come.   Here are three products we love in 2011.

One phone to rule them all

iPhone 4It lacks 4G speeds, has a screen that’s smaller than most modern smartphones, and raised a stink in 2010 when its users experienced problems with its antenna.  So why is the iPhone 4 still our favourite mobile?  Two words: screen quality.  The phone’s high-res screen boasts 326 pixels per inch resolution, making individual pixels virtually indistinguishable to the human eye.  Plus, the Apple phone has on its side an app store that’s packed with over 350,000 applications for all occasions, nearly double that of the rival Android market.  Others may wait for the iPhone 5 or look to the terrific new HTC Thunderbolt for their mobile needs, but we’re more than happy with what we’ve got.

Three dimensions of awesome

3D TVOur team has been pretty lukewarm about 3D TVs, mostly due to the fact that we feel like LeVar Burton wearing those silly 3D glasses.  That said, every one of us couldn’t help but be impressed by Panasonic’s line of VIERA full HD 3D TVs.  While we agree that 3D TVs are pretty much future-proof and are, at current, far too expensive, the Panasonic TX-P55VT30B distinguishes itself by producing crisp images in both 2 and 3 dimensions and discernably better picture quality than equivalent LED TVs.  Regardless of whether or not we look ridiculous watching it, this is our favourite HD TV for 2011.

A new generation of point and shoot

digital camerasDigital cameras are great, but the increase in DSLR cameras on the market means everyone and their sister can now flood our Facebook feed with their pseudo-artsy photography.  120 close-ups of someone’s culinary creations can get old pretty fast, but we like the Nikon D7000 because it also shoots crystal-clear 1080p video with full-time autofocus.  No matter the subject, everything shows up vibrant when caught in the D7000’s crosshairs, and while the camera doesn’t give us the skills to set us apart from our photo-blogging friends, at least we can celebrate our mediocrity in full HD glory.

Got a product you think we missed?  Let us know about it in the comments below!

Did you know?

Within 3 days of its availability, the iPhone 4 sold 1.7 million units.
