Top fishing spots in and around Great Britain

Now is the perfect time of year to get out the old fishing rods and fishing trousers and head out on a trip. The fish are biting, and we’ve uncovered some of the best spots around for you to catch your haul.rod

Dungeness Beach, Kent

This beach head has traditionally been know as a terrific spot to land a big cod, but you are also likely to catch bass, sole, flounder, or dab. Fishing from right the shore makes it easy and accessible to even the most novice fishermen.

Lough Corrib, Galway, Ireland

Lough Corrib is the second largest lake in Ireland, and with its rich biodiversity is a must see for any fisherman or wildlife enthusiast. Corrib is seasonally known for its dawn chorus in the early spring and for its Mayfly Week in the town of Oughterard, where live mayflies are hooked to a line in order to catch Corrib Trout.

River Teifi, Ceredigion, Wales

The once heavily polluted waterway to Cardigan is now an angler’s paradise. The glacial waters and lush rolling hills provide a beautiful setting for the fishing at Teifi. If you’re lucky, you may even see a local man salmon fishing with nets in a coracle, a tiny one-man boat, which is a tradition that has been passed down for generations.

North Tyne River, Northumberland

The River Tyne is regarded as the best Salmon river in England and Wales. Hatchery programs have helped put a boom in the river’s salmon population in recent years, and it is not uncommon to see anglers catching Salmon in excess of 20 lbs.

Loch Leven, Scotland

Loch Leven’s productive trout fishery of Brown Trout is so renowned that it is used to stock fresh-water lakes the world over. Go to the actual source for this fish during the summer months for beautiful scenery, including Loch Leven Castle, and spectacular fishing from a boat.

No matter where you choose to fish, be sure to check you are following the proper guidelines, regulations, and have any required permits.
