Editor’s Pick: Unforgettable Blogs

These pearls keep popping up and blowing us away, so we continue to faithfully share them with you! Here are the best of the best blogs; soak up all they have to offer like the last warm rays of summer!

1. The Fashion Guitar

Charlotte of The Fashion Guitar finds the perfect balances between casual and elegant, edgy and classic, and bohemian and sleek. Her style, as evidenced by her beautiful photos, is fresh and effortless. And now that she is pregnant, she’s showing how pregnant women don’t have to compromise their style; they can still look chic and stylish. We guarantee that you will be inspired!

Q: How did you become passionate about fashion?

A: As long as I can remember I’ve been interested in fashion. It started with collecting fashion ads from magazines (the full page editorial ads in black/white) which I took out and hung in my room). I had a whole wall featuring all designer brands. I loved it! Later I started reading the magazines, became more passionate about the editorials, photographers, and models, and developed a strong personal style and interest in fashion. I shared this often with my friends, gave them style advice, took them shopping, and then, after moving to London, my boyfriend said, “Charlotte, it’s time to take the next step: START YOUR OWN BLOG”. That day in November we started: He taking photos, I posing, styling, writing and designing the blog. I am loving it every day, and I really found my passion in doing this!

Q: Which clothing items or accessories of yours will you keep and cherish for decades?

A: First of all my leather biker jacket from Pauw (a Dutch fashion label). It cost a fortune, but it’s the best thing I could have bought. I live in it! Secondly, my shoes! I have a huge collection and love every pair with all my heart. Too bad though that a few pairs are too big, I am selling them now in my web shop (http://thefashionguitar.com/shop-my-closet/)! You should really check it out!

Q: Which celebrity has had the best maternity fashion?

A: Hard question. I didn’t really check out pregnant celebs yet, but after doing some research I have to say that Natalie Portman, Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba looked so gorgeous whilst being pregnant!!

Q: Where do you find inspiration?

A: Online mostly. Fashion blogs, fashion retailers and online editorials give me everything I need. Although a hard copy of Vogue still makes me happy as a child!

Q: What have been the most significant benefits of blogging?

A: The amazing events I get invited to, the free items (for which I am very thankful), and the lovely contacts with other bloggers, designers and of course: My readers!

Thanks, Charlotte!

2. Audrey Allure

Audrey has an Associate’s Degree in Fashion Merchandising and is currently studying fashion marketing, so she has an eye for great style and fills her blog with plenty of fashion events coverage, fashion inspiration and also music, literature, film and food. She features recipes on “Tasty Thurdays” and gorgeous photos on “Inspirational Tuesdays”. This is the perfect blog to keep you entertained and on your toes.

Q: How has your personal style evolved over the years?

A: My style has definitely become more fashion conscious and about finding things that actually fit me well. I’ve been more aware about proportions and where things fall on my body.

Q: If you could raid the closet of anyone, celebrity or not, whose would it be?

A: I would love to raid Olivia Palermo’s closet. I adore her style and I love everything that she wears.

Q: Where do you find most of your inspiration?

A: Usually from other people – bloggers or just stylish people walking down the street. Sometimes you see someone wearing something in a different way, and you think, “Wow, I haven’t thought about trying that!”

Q: What are your fashion pet peeves?

A: I don’t really have any fashion pet peeves; I think anyone is entitled to their own fashion style and likes whether anyone else likes it or not. Although, it bugs me when I find a piece I really like and I find out they’re out of my size.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

A: Well, this isn’t technically advice but this lyric from “Can’t Go Back Now” by the Weepies is basically what I live by: “In the end, the only steps that matter are the ones you take all by yourself.”

Thanks, Audrey!

3. Dozen Dresses

Sonia is the brain behind Dozen Dresses, a fabulous fashion-oriented blog. She was good enough to take the time to answer some of our questions about her personal style. Take it away, Sonia!

Q: How has your personal style evolved over the years?

A: It’s changed quite a bit, I used to like things that were more simple and almost preppy, now I don’t really know how to describe it, but it’s definitely changed, my style now is a lot more eclectic I think.

Q: What are some of your biggest style/design influences?

A: Magazines, certain characters in movies, the 60’s, and Alexa Chung are probably my biggest influences. Also just what people are wearing on street style blogs and literally on the street.

Q: What sort of responses and feedback have you received in regards to your blog?

A: Well I haven’t really had a huge response, but the stuff I have received is always very positive and so nice, and I really really appreciate it!

Q: What are your favorite places to shop?

A: I buy a lot of vintage, but H&M and Topshop are my favourite shops on the high street. And I’m a little bit obsessed with Urban Outfitters too.

Q: How has blogging changed the way you work/design your products, if at all?

A: I’m not sure it’s changed that much… I think it’s made me a bit more organised, although I’m still a really unorganized person!

Thanks Sonia!

4. What Olivia Did

Olivia runs a great little blog called “What Olivia Did” which covers topics from fashion, to music, to recipes and beyond. Olivia took a few moments to let us know about her influences and overall take on style. Take it away Olivia!

Q: What are some of your biggest style influences?

A: I tend to take style influences essentially from people, whether they’re famous or not. Two of my main style influences are without a doubt my mum and my nan. Both have the most impeccable and timeless style, and know how to work a white shirt and some killer accessories. Additionally, I’d be lying if I didn’t say Alexa Chung wasn’t a copycat favourite, but I also love the go-to and daring style of both Fearne Cotton and Drew Barrymore.

Q: Where are some of your favourite places to shop?

A: I’m a true high street girl, and always seem to find something I like in Topshop or Zara. Both shops know how to select the best current trends and replicate them without looking inexpensive. I also love Urban Outfitters and Russell & Bromley when I can afford it!

Q: You write a bit about music in your blog. How does music influence your life and style, if at all?

A: I think music plays a huge influence in my life. My dad has always been a huge influence on what I listen to and I have grown up surrounded by it. It can change a mood, and be one of the most uplifting things. In terms of style, there are certain artists who I occasionally go to for outfit ideas, such as Florence Welch, Beth Cosentino (Best Coast) and Lykke Li.

Q: What are some outfits that you would never be caught dead in?

A: I don’t really think there’s anything I can immediately think of that I’d never be caught dead in, I think style is something you live and learn from, but I suppose I’d never be caught dead in something I felt hugely uncomfortable in or that I thought did me and my style no justice.

Q: How do you think style in London differs from the rest of the UK and Europe?

A: I think style in London is very contrasting and varied, and I think living in such a vibrant city you have the freedom to dress however you really desire, and it’s rare people bat an eyelid. I think it differs from the rest of Europe, as I feel European style is perhaps more basic, not in a boring or bland way, but London offers something a little more experimental. Obviously never having lived anywhere else in the U.K or Europe I haven’t really had the opportunity to experience other style cultures first hand.

Thanks for taking the time to let us get to know you Olivia!

Susu Paris Chic

5. Susu Paris Chic

Susa has a certain joie de vivre that is visually evident in her personal style, her art, her photos of Paris and cities she travels to. It’s quite beautiful, not to mention that Paris is the most perfect setting for a fashion blog. Don’t be surprised if perusing this blog ignites a strong lust for the City of Lights. We caught up with Susa for her insights on Paris, style and inspiration.

Q: How does Paris influence your style and art?

A: Paris has made me more conscious of my looks and femininity. Heels and mini skirts have become something very natural. Not that all ladies here – and definitely not the real, self-assured Frenchwomen – truly wear this chick gear on a daily basis. Paris has so many gorgeous people and art exhibitions that I find myself pushing this girl higher, faster and prettier – always more – so that I could feel I exist. When one turns this the positive, booster way up, Paris is a place that pushes me to find and constantly evolve my style, as well as my artistic expression. My clothing style is urban city chic and art style modern abstract with techniques that people could find more than just “tossed on the canvas”.

Q: Which items of clothing or accessories in your wardrobe do you treasure most?

A: I’ll have to go back to those mini skirts and high heels. There is nothing sexier or better to enhance my spirits than wearing these glamorous pieces. Good quality leather pumps and a well-fitted, at this moment at the top ruffled black mini, just do the glam trick for me. For the past year, I have also become quite a scarf buff. They spruce up any outfit a flashlight – plus they change your looks with a nicely low budget.

Q: What is your philosophy when it comes to fashion?

A: For me fashion is about “painting on my body’s canvas”. I strive for letting my inner personality have a means to come out. I ask myself what I like, I keep a close eye on the trends and pick some – because I feel better about myself when I follow the in vogue things a bit. Not too little nor too much. I don’t have an endless paycheck and am also very green in thinking – so overboard consumption is not my bliss.

Q: Where do you find inspiration?

A: I long to create based upon the influences I gather from fashion blogs – my lovely creative ladies’ (and guys) network – some occasional glossies, Paris art exhibitions and my travel experiences. My urban city chic style finds its energy from Paris (especially the Museum of Modern Art), London (especially the Saatchi Gallery) and New York (especially the MoMA) – cities that I try to visit regularly.

Q: How has blogging positively impacted your life?

A: I have made some very dear friends here in Paris that I regularly meet for lunches, art exhibitions or walks in the parks – so very much in real life. I have also made friends in New York and London that I hook up with when over. This makes my travels “more local”, less touristy. As if I just took the Tube to meet up with a gal pal. For a moment I can play a lovely dream game of being a busy New Yorker.

Blogging has also given me invitations to fashion shows in Paris. Not many since these are hard to come across nowadays. But every single invitation is a treasure. My latest was Stella McCartney’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection premier during the Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.

A few companies have wanted to grant me their products. I was invited to choose pieces of clothing from a Singapore-based company called Sophistix and was sent a generous amount of organic skincare products from La Clinica in Australia.

All in all, blogging has provided me with interesting and creative friends (and connections) all over the world that I feel somehow very close to – all in being conscious of the fact that most of whom I have never met, yet.

Thanks, Susa!

6. Cat’s Little Obsession

Cat, a qualified make-up artist, is the brilliant mind behind the aptly titled blog “Cat’s Little Obsession”. She took a few minutes to speak with us about style, makeup, and blogging.

Q: How has your personal style evolved over the years?

A: I’ve wandered through every single ‘phase’ that a person can go through, I did ‘goth’ ‘emo’ and ‘punk’ and even tried ‘preppy’ and ‘trendy’ as well but never felt quite right. Nowadays I just mix up quirky tops and tunics with cardigans and blazers and keep it all quite casual. Work wise I refuse to wear black trousers. Working in the Head Office of an engineering firm means skirts and dresses are the only way to keep your femininity! I love basic, good quality dresses with colorful heels and if it’s cold (it always is, I live in England!) I wear a cropped black suit jacket. You’ll never, ever see me in a pair of jeans these days! I just don’t think my body shape suits them at all… perhaps once I’ve lost a bit more weight I’ll buy a pair, who knows!

Q: What are some of your biggest style influences?

A: It’s cliché but I really love Cheryl Cole’s taste in clothes, she always looks tailored and classy whilst still being ‘fashionable’. My friends play a huge part in my style as well because we’ll often go shopping together and they’ll pick out things for me that I wouldn’t normally choose. If I’m honest, without my best friends helping me out I would be useless!

Q: What are some of your favourite makeup and cosmetic products?

A: I couldn’t live without foundation and mascara. At the moment my favourite brands are Esteé Lauder(for foundation) and MAC (for mascara). Skincare wise my Holy Grail has to be Liz Earle; their products always perform brilliantly and never irritate my pale, sensitive skin. I firmly believe that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on makeup and cosmetics to get fantastic results though! One of the best mascaras I’ve ever used is called ‘big fake lash’ by Collection 2000, Revlon Colorstay Foundation is incredible and Topshop have some amazing cream blushes in their makeup line for about £6! It’s all about finding the products that work for you… Some women may find that a £10 ‘drugstore’ foundation works better on their skin that a £40 Chanel one.

Q: What are your favorite places to shop?

A: At the moment I’m in love with H+M (Hennes), for both casual clothing and work clothing, I bought a beautiful plain black skater dress with long sleeves from there for £15 the other day! Amazing quality and really affordable, you can’t go wrong. Marks and Spencers are also fab for pencil skirts and staple wardrobe pieces that you’ll wear a lot so need to wear well and last a long time. My other favourite shops include Topshop, New Look, and Zara for clothing and places like Debenhams and Selfridges for makeup and cosmetics.

Q: How has blogging and your product reviews changed the way you make purchasing decisions, if at all?

A: These days I always check online for reviews before I buy something! If bloggers/people on Twitter don’t like it or haven’t had a good experience with the brand I’m unlikely to buy the product, or indeed anything from the brand at all! Also I’m really lucky in that I’ll often get to try products after being sent them for consideration by brands, it saves me money on those things then I’m able to go and buy even more products to feature on my blog, it’s a win-win!

Thanks Cat!

7. Quirky Explosion

If you’d like to read a blog that will literally put a smile on your face and inspire you to sprint away from your comfort zone (or even take one little step outside) and wear what you really would love to wear simply because you really love it, then Quirky Explosion is for you. Lexy, the creator, is clearly going places because her creativity and optimism have remained refreshingly unstifled; she cheerfully wears what she wants to wear, how she wants to wear it, no matter what anyone else says. This is rare and exhilarating to witness. Read on for some Lexy Q&A!

Q: How would you describe your personal style?

A: I have fun with fashion – and I think my style shows that! Kooky, colourful, crazy…SHBAM!

Q: How has your style evolved over the years?

A: I have grown more comfortable with myself over the years. I have grown to dress for myself (not others). Consequently, my style has become much more free, intuitive and just plain ole’ Lexy.

Q: What are you looking forward to wearing this autumn?

A: LAYERS. Blazers! Tights! You name it! I am so sick of this summer heat. Dressing creatively has certainly gone downhill for me…and it’s no fun!

Q: What’s your current favourite item in your wardrobe?

A: I recently picked up the most ridiculous 70s psychedelic platforms. They are absolutely insane and horrific…in the best of ways!

Q: What do you love most about blogging?

A: The blogging community! (Shout out to my virtual friends – awww!) It’s a great avenue to boost my narcissism, ego and creative gremlins!

Thanks, Lexy!
