Illuminate everything with a make-up mirror

make-up mirrorWomen’s beauty magazines usually say that no one should own a magnifying make-up mirror because not even supermodels would want to see their faces so closely. But I’ve always disagreed because my mother always had one. She lived in fear of going about with stray facial hairs that no regular mirror would have the skill to point out to her. So I’ve learned that while they may not always be pleasant to look into, they have their moments of practicality. In fact, a well-lit dressing table (lit by Laura Ashley lighting, perhaps) will ensure that your face will be flawless and your make-up will be applied with the utmost precision.

First, you should have a dressing table that invites you to sit, relax and devote some admiration and attention to yourdressing table lovely face for a bit. I prefer dressing tables that look antique, like the Coach House Chateau Painted Glazed Dressing Table. It’s made of mahogany and modelled on antique French provincial-style furniture with many Louis Philippe details. However, I realise that these styles don’t usually have many drawers. If you have a boatload of beauty products that you use on a daily basis, then you should own a dressing table that has at least three drawers, like the Santana Reclaimed Oak Dressing Table which has eight drawers.

The money you’ve spent on your dressing table is all for naught if you don’t have sufficient light. I recommend bringing in some Laura Ashley lighting. You should have an overhead light – such as the Celeste Clear Glass Flower Ball ceiling light – and an illuminated make-up mirror, such as the No7 Illuminated Make-up Mirror. It is designed to eliminate shadows and glare. The 360 degrees of lighting around the mirror makes it perfect for grooming and applying make-up. And it features normal plus 5x magnification. Plus, it is quite sleek and glamorous-looking.

Did you know?

The earliest manufactured mirrors were pieces of polished stone such as obsidian, a naturally-occurring volcanic glass.
