As children grow and learn to talk, walk and explore the world, they begin to devolve their own unique personality.  This is always an exciting time for parents because it hints at the type of person little boys and girls will turn into in the future.  But as a child’s sense of self develops, so does his or her personal taste.  So when they start making their own decisions they might want to start expressing themselves and having a say in how their room looks.  To encourage their creativity and growth, there may be a few things in their room that can show off who they are.

Moving from a crib to a bed is a big step for toddlers so it can be a little scary or intimidating for them.  It helps to make the transition special for them.  Have your son or daughter help pick out their bed and bed linens.  I would advice getting a cot bed duvet cover so that as your child’s tastes change when they get older, the style of their bed can change just as easily.

Another feature that will transform a room from a nursery to a sophisticated child’s room is the walls.  Vinyl wallpaper is a great way to inject some personality into plain painted walls.  You can find a wallpaper in any colour and pattern.  There are even wallpapers with cartoon characters or you can go for a more neutral pattern that your child can grow into.

It is important to encourage a child’s creativity, so what better way than to give them a space in which to be creative.  A childrens desk will give them a workplace of there own and one that is just their size.  They can draw, paint, or even flip through books without messing up the kitchen table.  Having their own special space will teach them responsibility and free them to express themselves so that they can grow into adolescence with a clear sense of who they are.
