1. Scale

I always recommend using a measuring tape to track your progress, but a scale is a far more popular measuring device.  It is a rather good motivator to see all the weight lost as the days go by.  Just don’t be discouraged when the numbers don’t go down as fast as you would like.  They say muscle weighs more than fat, after all.

2. Weights

A dumbbell set is the most useful equipment to tone your arms.  As long as you start with a lighter weight and work your way up to something heavier, you will build up strength for your cardio workout and further define your muscles.

4. Mp3 player

Working out requires a great amount of activity, but most of it is repetitive and dull.  So in order to keep your mind off your burning muscles and maybe to help you get into a good workout rhythm, I would suggest getting an iPod nano.  A small, lightweight MP3 player is best so that is does not disturb your reps or run.  You can even upload an audio book, to train your mind along with your body.

3. Treadmill

Cardio is probably the most effective method of shedding weight and getting healthier.  A Horizon treadmill can get the heart pumping rather well and you can train to run faster and farther all without feeling the bitter harsh cold of the outdoors and perhaps while the telly is on as well.

5. Exercise ball

I have never known a piece of equipment more versatile than an exercise ball.  When used properly, an exercise ball can help even the most unfit person accomplish many different types of exercise moves.  All you need is a bit of instruction and the dedication to turn your measly ten sit-ups into a hundred.
