Top 5 travel essentials

While packing for my most recent weekend holiday, I realised that there are a few items I always end up packing (besides the usual suspects – toothbrush, deodorant, clean undergarments, etc). These items are perfect for the unpredictable, cramped nature of travelling and will ensure that you are much better prepared for a variety of possibilities, as well as more comfortable. I always pack these items and others into my trusty Samsonite suitcase. I love the lightweight yet durable Cubelite 2-Wheel suitcase in the champagne colour. It is such high quality and so easy to manoeuvre; plus, the colour makes it easy to distinguish from other people’s luggage.

Levis jeansThe first item you should always pack is one or two comfortable, versatile pairs of jeans. You can’t go wrong with a classic pair of Levi’s jeans. I’m so in love with the Curve ID jeans in “Bold Curve”. The fit is so flattering and comfortable that I definitely wouldn’t leave home without them! Besides, jeans don’t take up much space and don’t really wrinkle.

I’m not always in the mood to wear pants though, especially if it’s not cold outside, so I’ve found that packing some long dresses (maxi or midi) is a really wise thing to do. Long dresses will cover most of your legs and, with a few adjustments, they can very easily go from day to night, which means that you don’t necessarily have plan an outfit for each day and and an outfit for each night of your holiday. Always be on the lookout for shortcuts.

While I don’t usually wear a watch, I always make sure to wear one when I’m on holiday because my mobile phone usually doesn’t work and it’s just more convenient to be able to glance at my wrist. However, I pack my inexpensive Sekonda watch; never travel with an expensive watch because pickpockets will target you!

It’d be impractical for me to pack lots of my make-up, so I absolutely love my travel make-up set. The Clarinsmake up set Travel Vanity Collection Make Up Palette is perfect; it’s really everything you need in a compact case. You might also find that a set of travel make-up brushes is quite convenient as well.

Whenever I’m travelling, I do so much more walking than usual. For this reason, a durable, well-made pair of flat boots is essential, whether they’re over-the-knee, knee-high or booties. I love Cole Haan boots for their superb quality, stylishness and comfort. Stilettos will most likely just destroy your feet, while trainers are a bit too casual.

It’s so helpful to have a foundation of basics; then you can build from there.
