With spring season well on its way, most of us will be making new resolutions in time to prep for beach days, bikinis, grill-outs, and just plain fun-in-the-sun delight. As the weather starts to get warmer, we’ll soon ditch the frumpy outerwear and spend more time with our friends and family at the beach. Sounds relaxing? May be some. To others, the thought of sporting beachwear and being in our bare minimum clothes is a rather daunting idea. If you’ve been procrastinating your weight loss regimen, now is a great time to start before the beaches start to beckon and you realize your body is more like the Pilsbury Doughboy than Kate Middleton.
Working out regularly and making smart food choices are the primary keys to toning and sculpting your body the right way. Getting in shape takes a lot of time and effort but the results are worth it. As winter draws to a close, your summer exclusive weight loss opportunities are fresh for the taking.
If you’re looking for a nutritional boost prior to your workouts, snack on a protein bar. Protein bars are delicious and delivers a high level of protein to your muscles which is important, especially if you partake in high cardio activity. Protein bars will help your body to maintain, repair and rebuild muscle. With the large market for protein bars, choose a brand or flavor enjoyable for your taste buds. If you always have a protein bar in hand, you’ll never turn to a vending machine for an empty calorie snack ever again.
Maximize your work outs by getting into your target heart rate zone. Cardio is one of the best things you can do for your body and the great thing about it is that there are plenty of choices. Some of the more common (and less expensive) ways to get fit are through running, biking, kickboxing, swimming, step aerobics, etc. A key to prolonged workouts is how comfortable you’re feeling. Make sure you’re equipped with proper gear. For clothing, aim for a DryFit material that’ll wick away sweat. As far as shoes go, I found that Nike Air Trainers have minimal weight on your feet which will give you leverage especially in long distance running.
If work has gotten you pressed on time, resistance training exercises would be your best option since it requires less space and little equipment. You can use resistance bands, dumb bells, medicine balls, and even kettle bells. These exercises target your back and chest muscles in addition to your biceps. Don’t forget to get proper rest and drink water before, after, and during workouts. When done properly, exercise will increase your strength, motivation and self-confidence and get you all set just in time for the summer!
