When it comes to denim dungarees women tend to steer clear and avoid them at all cost. However, when worn correctly they can actually make for an amazingly cute outfit and mark the presence of a confident and in-control woman who marches to the beat of her own drum.
When we hear the word ‘dungarees’ we tend to think of baggy, unflattering denim coveralls—stop right there! First, try a pair that are cut into shorts with a cuffed hem like the ones shown here. These are absolutely great for the warmer months as they’re comfortable and cool, yet still incredibly stylish.
The key to pulling off dungarees comes down to what you’re wearing with them. Make sure to wear a cute, formfitting top underneath; crinkle tops are a wonderful option as they are contemporary and creative which is exactly the look we’re going for! This one is particularly brilliant because of the darling striped pattern and the feminine, bunched up neckline. The light wash of the denim will make these stripes and solids pop, which will draw attention and curiosity to your top underneath.
To keep the look girly and fashionable it’s crucial you sport a sexy pair of shoes to counterbalance the loose denim look. A black wedge heel is what I’d go for with this outfit as it will give you a little lift but won’t appear over the top or feel uncomfortable. These Pepe Jeans wedges are the perfect height, and have a great colour contrast going on. The black braided bands combined with the tan, cork heels make these a great choice for summer and a nice accent to the stripes on your top.
And, of course, you’ll want to make sure you’re wearing a few bold pieces of jewellery to really set this look off! Try layering a few chunky bangles on your arm, and compliment them with some dangly earrings. Finally, be brave and strut your stuff!
